Counselor's Corner
2008 – 2009 Registration Starts Soon!
It’s hard to believe, but starting after the February
Break the counselors will be meeting with your student to register for next
year’s classes.
How can you help? Parents are an extremely important
part of the registration process. Talking with your student about their
interests, possible career opportunities and academic aspirations is incredibly important in shaping the student's classes and five year plan.
Although students will not receive the written materials until the
presentations in block
classes, all forms and the
course descriptions are online and available for
viewing. There are a few new classes which are not listed, but with few
exceptions, most classes listed online will be offered 2008-09. Take the
time to look at the classes with your student before registration time.
Evaluate which classes are needed for graduation or for educational/training
opportunities after graduation. Please remember that four year colleges have
additional requirements which students must meet.
During your student’s registration process, it is very
important to review the materials, check your student’s transcript for
accuracy, do a credit check for progress towards graduation, help select
classes and alternates, complete the five year plan, and sign off on all
forms! Our turn around time is very short, so it is wise to be thinking
ahead of time what classes your student may need or desire. All forms are
expected to be complete and turned in on time.
As you can tell from the schedule, this is a very busy
time for the Counseling and Career Center. Counselors will be in classes,
delivering the registration materials, and collecting completed forms every
day for six weeks. We will do our best to return phone calls and schedule
meetings, but please be patient during this period as our time is extremely
limited.
Students will be given the registration materials in their
block classes according to the following timeline:
